NFL trade rumors: Jimmy Garoppolo to land on New Orlean Saints, says Jeremy Fowler

The NFC Championship game ended in a disappointment to the San Fransisco 49ers against the Los Angeles Rams last season. With several injuries from the Niners’ camp, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was no exception. Being in the news cycle, Garoppolo was rumored here and then about his trade whether he is going to stay with the 49ers or otherwise.

However, as time goes by, the situation gradually became clearer that the two-time Super Bowl champion will be moved eventually. It seems like the 49ers are aiming to fully turn the page to the Trey Lance era and Garoppolo might already have a hunch on that.

On February 1, Garoppolo spoke about “Finding the right destination” to general manager, John Lynch and stated, “I just want to go with a place where they want to win.” Aside from that, Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan have been satisfied with Lance’s development.

Though there is still no official statement from any of the parties, there are already several speculations on whom Jimmy G. will end up with, given that the QB has several suitors. The Pittsburgh Steelers, the Washington Commanders, or even the Denver Broncos, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN have a say that former Eastern Illinois will end up with New Orlean Saints.

Garoppolo’s injury

The former New England Patriots underwent surgery after torn capsule in his shoulder at San Francisco’s wild-card round victory against Dallas Cowboys last season. Lynch who admitted to being unaware of the serious situation believed that wherever Garoppolo goes, there’s nothing to be worried about.

“There’s always Plan A, Plan B, Plan C,” Lynch said.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Garoppolo who is recovering from the surgery will most likely need a rehabilitation period until this summer. The statement was further claimed by the doctor in Pittsburgh handling Garoppolo.

“It wouldn’t be outlandish for him to be ready by the first or second preseason game in August,” said Dr. Christopher Emond, who works at Tri-State Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine.

To the unfortunate event, perhaps, it could be one of the considerations that the team decided to trade Garoppolo with Lance.

Garoppolo has been with the 49ers since 2017 and led the team to a Super Bowl appearance in 2019. Lynch expressed that “(Jimmy G. is) a part of (the team) and he’s gonna work diligently to get back from this surgery.”

While the 30-year-old is still recovering, he will also need to make a decision sooner or later on which team he would like to spend his five years in the future with. Meanwhile, speculations have been piling up with Jimmy’s and his new team’s name. This time, it is New Orleans Saints stated by ESPN Jeremy Fowler.

Jeremy Fowler on Jimmy G’s new team

Garoppolo himself told reporters, “I knew this would happen eventually,” referring to his move in the trade talks. However, to which team is still unknown.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler has an opinion on this and suggested his “wildest rumor” which he heard at the NFL Scouting Combine at Indianapolis.

“But if [Aaron] Rodgers and [Russell] Wilson aren’t moved, Garoppolo becomes one of the top options available. Maybe New Orleans at least kicks this idea around.”

In 2021, the Walter Payton Awardee rate 68.3% completion rate, 98.7 QB rating 20-12 TD-INT in stats. It would not be too much of a surprise if Garoppolo really ended up with the Saints. Thanks to Fowler, at least Garoppolo’s fans and audience have more insights into the quarterback’s future.
