‘At least’ 5 NFL teams interested in Kaepernick, personal trainer says

ESPN’s Adam Schefter in the last two weeks reported that former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has been “in the best shape of his life.” The opportunity to come back with the NFL teams seems to present itself for the 34-year-old, though to what team is still a question.

The two-time Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year led San Francisco to a Super Bowl XLVII appearance in the 2012 season. His last appearance in the NFL dated back to 2016, in the same year when he started kneeling down on the football field as a protest of racial injustice and police brutality in the United States.

Standing up for the victim, Kaepernick actually received critics from politicians, team owners, and other players in which the situation led to no job offers so far. In 2020, the situation started to change where Kaepernick was considered a hero following the death of George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer.

However, with the hiring of Kyle Shanahan as the new head coach in the 49ers, Kaepernick was believed to have a different style of play than what Shanahan envisioned for the Niners. Thus, he was replaced by Jimmy Garoppolo.

Though still no official NFL offer, Kaepernick’s private coach claimed that he has ‘at least’ five teams that show their interest in the former QB.

Continuous promotion

“We just want the opportunity to get in the door and show them what I can do. I think my talent, my skill set will speak for itself,” said Kaepernick when asked about his comeback to the NFL.

Kaepernick toured several cities across the country as another means of promoting himself by working closely with several NFL players.

“Still waiting for that chance. Still hopeful,” he told The Athletic on Wednesday about potential auditioning for the Seahawks. “We have spoken recently and (I’m) still hoping that door is open and get a chance to walk through it.”

Kaepernick diligently posted videos of his workouts on social media as he tries to demonstrate that he still has the power to throw passes worthy of NFL standards. Although the former Super Bowl champion has not played for almost six years, he insisted that he only needs a chance.

“The best way to tell is to bring me in for a workout,” Kaepernick said.

Although his signals to the NFL teams out there from the social network have not resulted in any contract, Kaepernick’s trainer, David Robinson, claims that at least five teams have approached him regarding Kaepernick.

David Robinson on the five teams

On Tuesday, good news finally came to the career fate of Kaepernick from his personal trainer, Robinson with “at least” five teams interested in Kaepernick, including the Seattle Seahawks and the Carolina Panthers.

“A few teams have reached out to me and asked how his arm looked. They have reached out and asked about him,” said Robinson.

“He definitely has the ability to play on somebody’s roster — like, right now,” Robinson said. “Like, a couple of the guys that were in the session that were on NFL teams were saying that his arm is just as strong as guys’ that we got on our roster right now and can play.”

While five or even 10 teams can acquire Kaepernick, none of it matters until a team really works and signs him. But for now, Robinson believes that Kaepernick is in a good position.

“So, yeah. He looked real good,” Robinson said.
